Whelp! after a few years of delaying the move from my old ISP, I finally bit the bullet and moved this site to CloudAccess hosting!. So far I am delighted.

I had an old site that I hadn't been keeping updated. It was written previously in Expression Web, and had a few features that I liked and was easy to edit.  But alas, it was not responsive, and the CSS and HTML versions were outdated.

I surfaced from retirement 'briefly', to create a website for my high school alumni association. I say 'briefly' because what should have been a 4 week effort grew into 7 months!  I will discuss the process and pit-falls in this article as well as describe the resources that I found helpful and of course inexpensive.

One thing still holds true. It takes much longer than you initially estimate.   It went live last week and can be seen at jmhaa.org. Was built with Joomla (free), Sp pagebuilder (paid), and Rsforms pro (paid).  Free extensions were, Akeeba backup (of course), and JCE editor. Just can't do without those.

It's easy to get started creating your website. Knowing some of the basics will help.

What is a Content Management System?

A content management system is software that allows you to create and manage webpages easily by separating the creation of your content from the mechanics required to present it on the web.

In this site, the content is stored in a database. The look and feel are created by a template. Joomla! brings together the template and your content to create web pages.
